This notice explains how we handle your personal data when you use Ask Carters. It should be reviewed by Carters' data protection adviser before launch.
Who we are
Carters Building Consultancy Ltd is the data controller for personal data processed through Ask Carters AI.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email, user category
- Project information you enter, including conversations and assessments
- Enquiry details and contact preferences
- Purchase records (card details are handled by our payment processor, Stripe)
- Technical and, with your consent, analytics data
How we use it and our lawful basis
To provide the service (contract), respond to enquiries (legitimate interests or steps prior to a contract), send marketing only with your consent, and meet legal obligations.
AI and third-party processors
Conversations are processed by our AI model provider (OpenAI, via an integration provider) to generate responses. Payments are processed by Stripe. Email notifications are sent through an email delivery provider. Data may be processed outside the UK under appropriate safeguards.
Retention and your rights
We keep data only as long as necessary. You can request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability, and withdraw consent at any time from your account page or by contacting us. You may complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Security and incidents
Data is encrypted in transit, access is role-restricted and project data is private to your account. Suspected incidents are investigated and reported where required.
